Guild Wars 2 Sylvari Armor Sets by haikai13 Guild Wars 2 Sylvari Armor Sets by haikai13
As seen in the first few Guild Wars 2 videos, the Sylvari race were once more traditional elf-like in appearance than they ended up being in the final game. These are some cultural armor sets that were made before the design changed to be more literally "of plant." I'm not sure if these armor sets I made ended up being used in the game in any capacity.

Here's a link to your armour being worn by an NPC :). [link]

Awesome, thanks so much for that! :) Looks like they changed the boots and the shoulder armor, and I presume there was some surgery involved to get it working on the new Sylvari because the old one was quite different technically.

The boots and shoulders are actually from two different cultural armour sets. I really like this armour, the leggings on the character model are beautiful. I'm hoping that with the new expansion we can get the armour as drops. But it might just stay as NPC exclusive armour.

Oh, thanks for the info. To be honest, I think the real limiting factor is still whether or not the team agrees that it's something that represents the Sylvari race as they'd like. There's more leniency on NPCs because they need a lot of variety to begin with to differentiate them from player models. One of the principles of the current Sylvari design is that the clothes should appear as if its growing from their bodies and not just clothes that happen to be made from plants.

There are a lot of Sylvari outside of the grove that wear "normal" armour. Usually combat oriented Sylvari.

Yea, outside the Grove anything is fair game because it's not meant to be native clothing, I guess. The distinction isn't really that big of a deal to me personally, but it was something they wanted to distinguish as much as possible.

Really thinking on it it seems that Sylvari that are part of different Orders in the game wear that Orders armour but for some reason there are a few Sylvari outside of the Grove and inside that still wear cloth clothing.

And the Sylvari wearing this armour you designed were just added to the game. Only two npcs in the entire game are wearing it.

Ah, hmm, perhaps they're relaxing the rules a bit now. If enough of a fuss is raised they probably will release the clothing set for everyone. :D

They are used in game. but only on NPCs.
It'd be nice to be able to use them on player characters though.

Oh man, I hope if it is in the game it's not Sylvari exclusive. That medium armour would look fabulous on my ranger. I have to admit, though, I'm curious how the dye system would work on some of these pieces with gradients.

That's one of the reasons why the dye system is problematic... Gradients can dye to unpredictable colors if the base is too colorful. There was a concern that if players bought a certain dye color that they might be disappointed if using it also introduced a color that they didn't like. It actually pains me to see how flat the colors end up being after dyeing.

I agree that the dye system and the resulting colors are a little underwhelming at times, although I do enjoy being able to stockpile dyes and change them whenever I like. I had sort of been hoping for more armor for the Sylvari like your design because the flat colors just seem to glare at me on my Sylvari characters. Here's to hoping I find your armour set!

If they do decide to make those armors available, I hope they don't mess with the colors before they put it in for your sake! :)

I want my Sylvari to wear these though!
The Cultural armour sets are cool and all, but the light armour sets don't compare. This however is gorgeous, feels like a meld between Sylvari and human.
LOVE the top right!

Thanks! Who knows, maybe they will become available one day for another purpose. It's already made so it wouldn't take much work to implement should they feel inclined to do so. It just wouldn't work as official Sylvari armor because that's supposed to look like it was grown from the bodies instead of worn clothes in the conventional sense.
