Hella - Goddess of the Dead - Zbrush by haikai13 Hella - Goddess of the Dead - Zbrush by haikai13

This is a high resolution game model inspired by Hella, the Norse Goddess of the Dead. It's not meant to be a literal interpretation, but there are enough parallels with the design that I thought the name was fitting. I created this 3d model from concepts painted by Herman Ng. This model is ~29k triangles, with multiple high resolution textures. It's not optimized at all because the goal was to see what kind of quality I could achieve without worrying about restrictions.

I used Maya, Zbrush, 3dCoat, Xnormal, BodyPaint, and Photoshop. Real time rendering with Marmoset Toolbag.

I remember watching your videos for this character and I see here you say this model isn't optimized.
But I'm curious since I'm still trying to understand the optimization concept.

I get it wouldn't be optimal for a game but what about use for a cinematic like
LoL - A New Dawn, or the Overwatch cinematic trailer?
Can you go all out on those too, or is there a restriction in terms of model quality and if there is a restriction what is it there for?

Cinematics such as the ones you mentioned hardly have any limitations at all compared to game models. That said, there are actually a lot of game models these days that are actually more performance intensive than my Hella model (such as the Overwatch game models, for example).

Sweet, I'm so glad to hear that!

I find this stuff so interesting but there is just so much info to learn
I struggle to find a starting point especially with using ZBrush.

Thank you for the information Hai! :D

It looks very good, but the thing about Hel is that she is supposed to be half dead. This woman looks a bit to alive on both her halves lol.

My thinking was that instead of literally being half decayed, she's more like "dead" on the inside which the stuff coming out of her back is alluding to. Yea, it's a bit of a stretch, I admit! I definitely don't claim any authenticity to this. :)
