WoW paladin fan art. I did both the design and the model. This has a rather unconventional texture layout to simulate how the character's gear might be split up. Presuming the textures would be combined into a 1k map, the remaining 512 area could be used for other items such as a cape, helmet, etc.
I't does look like something the artis over a blizzard would design, or would have designed, their designs as of late are cluttered and messy. This looks much cleaner then their efforts of late.
Thanks. I also think the WoW designs lately have been too busy. It's a trap that's easy to fall into when trying to design increasingly detailed and "high level" gear that is supposed to be fancier than the designs that came before it.
That's one thing I always noticed with WoW, that the armor is SO detailed and ornate. Heroes in many other stories often get by with a simple tunic and sword, but in WoW you get a sword that's made up of three floating segments all covered in runes and shoulder pads with a rack for each of your weapons, all encrusted with gems and whatnot. It all got a little too complicated in parts - I did really like Shaman Tier 10, though.
I haven't played since a while before MoP came out, but if I did still, I wish the models could look this nice. Well done!
Thanks, I agree. I can understand that the art direction for armor in MMO games is often over the top, but I think there are a lot of players who would rather look good instead of gaudy.
